Wall to wall carpet (or fitted carpet, as it is also known) is a carpet made with the specific purpose of covering an entire floor. Wall-to-wall carpets are very popular, especially for use in living rooms and bedrooms. It lends a warm and welcoming feeling to any room. Wall-to-wall carpets are also very versatile in the sense that they come in a wide range of colours and textures.
When wall-to-wall carpeting was first designed, the carpets were woven specifically for the area it was intended to cover. This made carpets very expensive. In order to make carpeting more affordable, it was later woven in strips and then woven together by the carpet fitter on site. Traditionally, carpets were held in place with the use of tacks that were individually nailed around the perimeter of the carpet. Today, however, carpets are usually fitted with the use of tack strips, smooth edge, gripper strips or tackless strips that ultimately results in a neater finish around the edges of the carpet.
Wall-to-wall carpeting is still as popular as ever, mainly because of its easy maintenance and the enhancement that it brings to its users. Carpeting is very simple to maintain on a day-to-day basis. It requires only a simple run over with a vacuum cleaner. Most stains can be removed immediately, with a dampened cloth and a mild detergent. It is important to note that a deep cleaning is required every occasionally. Wall-to-wall carpets also trap dust, preventing the spread of airborne allergens.
